ADAMS -- After 40 years as a member of the Alert Hose Company and 15 years serving as its chief, Stephen Brown has decided it’s time to hang up his firefighting gear.
Brown said on Thursday that he plans to retire from the Alerts in May, which will coincide with the fire district’s election so a new chief can be selected.
"The numbers are right, 40 and 15 are good, round numbers," Brown said jokingly. "But when I took over as chief, it was my intention to serve around 15 years. It’s just getting to be quite a full-time job. I have a number of projects that have been backing up that I keep saying I’m going to get to, but I don’t."
