LENOX -- Firefighters struggled to subdue a fast-moving fire that destroyed the 19th century Carriage House at the Cranwell Resort, Spa and Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Departments from around the county assisted the Lenox Fire Department, which arrived at the scene of the 2:20 p.m. fire within minutes.
As the blaze, fanned by a bitter north wind, intensified it became clear that the 18-room luxury guest house wouldn't be saved. A large section of roof collapsed and bright orange flames shot into the sky, prompting more reinforcements to be called in to help contain the stubborn fire.
