Can I burn brush in town?

The open burning season is normally April 15 - May 1 but may change due to weather conditions.  Homeowners may, with a valid permit, burn winter storm debris such as brush, cane, driftwood and forestry debris but not leaves, grass or stumps.  Burning household material is prohibited.  Please remember that according to regulation 310 CMR 7.07(3)(e), burning hours are from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and require the fire to be more than 75' from all dwellings and attended by a person at all times.  Permits may be revoked if nuisance conditions occur.  Contact the Water District offices at 743-0179 for permits.

Does the Alert Hose Company charge for its services?

The Alert Hose Company is an all volunteer fire fighting organization.  Each member gives his time and service freely.  The company has not charged residents for its service since its inception in 1876.  The company does however conduct an annual solicitation each year as a fund raiser which has received tremendous support from the community.  The company also holds a golf tournament each year.  These fund raisers allow the company to continue to provide Adams with a strong fire fighting and community presence.
